a large tomb has been uncovered here in 2014 which dates to about 325 BC and could be the tomb of Alexander the Great.

Amphipolis (aka Amfípolis, Modern Greek: Αμφίπολη; Ancient Greek: Ἀμφίπολις) is a municipality in the Serres regional unit of Greece. The seat of the municipality is Rodolivos.^[3] In ancient times, it was a city in the region once called Edonia in the present-day region of Central Macedonia. It was built on a distance of around 5 kilometres (3 mi) from the Aegean Sea coast.
