The Layers of the castle is located in the municipality of Couches in Saône-et-Loire , below the town, on a ledge overlooking the valley of the Creuse. It is part of the ancient fortresses of the Duchy of Burgundyand allowed especially to protect the road from Paris to Chalon via Autun .
