The Laval Castle is a castle located in Laval , in the French department of Mayenne . It consists of two separate buildings: the Old Castle , medieval defensive structure built from the xii th century, the Chateau Neuf, the book Renaissance whose construction began in 1542. Both monuments are on the list of 1034 first french historical monuments in 1840
