The 2016 North Canterbury earthquake occurred two minutes after midnight on 14 November 2016 (local time). The shock had a magnitude of between 7.5 and 7.8, with the epicenter located within the Hope Fault, about 15 km north-east of Culverden on the South Island of New Zealand.[2][3][4][4][5]
